Message from Rick Eckert, ASEA President

THE Alaska State Elks Association
IS PLANNING FOR A GREAT NEW YEAR!
As I start my year as ASEA President, we must appreciate our successes during the past year and enthusiastically plan for the next.

All the while, an eye for growth and improve-ment has to be maintained. Our celebration of the past year in Alaskan Elkdom happened in Skagway this May and the plan for next year has been unfolded for us all to work on.
We will see continued success with the growth and value of our Trust Fund. The fund is a wonderful success story that will get even better as its earnings essentially cover the cost of our major project, the ASEA Youth Camp.

Our Americanism Committee will increase the number of school kids that express their hearts in essay on subjects like respect for our nation’s flag and what it means to be a citi-zen of the United States of America.

The Hoop Shoot and Soccer Shoot programs will grow through the creation of eager coop-eration with our schools. More and more applications from qualified and deserving high school graduates will be rounded up by our ASEA Most Valuable Student Committee.

Though already impressive, can you see now the new levels of contributions to our Elks National Foundation? We will be hosting as many as 160 wounded and recuperating soldiers in June through a partner-ship of the Alaska Wounded Veterans Program and the Kenai River Professional Guide Association. This is a significant increase in participants from last year. A new goal will be set. With the assistance of the ASEA, each Alaska Lodge will host its own wounded veteran event...yep we can see it now. Saying thank you to and showing appre-ciation for these young men and women in(692) person is its own reward. It is a reward that will benefit the members of each Lodge.

General Dwight D. Eisenhower said “Motivation is the art of getting people to do what you want because they want to do it”. As leaders in Alaska Elkdom it is our job to get peo-ple to want to make this coming year even more successful than the last.

Fraternally Yours, Rick Eckert , President
